What a fantastic event! It takes so many people to make an event great but also make it memorable. Kerry Lovell, President of LA Gumbo Chapter 5031, and his wife Diana got us into the swing of the “Gumbo and All That Jazz” weekend by hosting a 3-hour social dance party in the George Rodrigue Blue Dog Gallery, setting the stage for a jazzy dance night.
We had fun party favors to get us in the New Orleans spirit here in the Big Easy. Captain Jack Jaubert gave us a little history lesson on the most popular tradition in New Orleans: the Second Line. We all took part in the Second Line, parading through the hotel and strutting some of our dance steps. You will see some of us holding a parasol, wearing a mask, or waving a scarf, but all of us wearing a smile parading through the hotel. Captain Jack also was the on-deck captain for the Gumbo DanceSport Championship.
The festivities didn’t stop with the parade, though. Experiencing New Orleans without food and music would be unheard of, and the volunteers from the LA Gumbo Chapter 5031 continued to deliver. The chapter provided us with snacks, a cash drink bar, and music by DJ Henry De Los Reyes. Tom and Anna Bruno from the chapter were competitors and volunteered as Door Monitors.
Thank you for making the social dance in the Big Easy memorable. I can’t wait to see
what you have in store for us next year.
